One Day Interview Prep Workshop
Looking for a crash course in interview technique before the big day? Let us help.
Designed to fit in one day of intense preparation and study, our one-day interview workshop is the best way for students to gain a deep insight into what to expect from their interview at Oxford or Cambridge (Oxbridge) or medical school, and how they can best prepare in order to succeed.
Your university interview may be the first interview you ever sit, and as there’s so much resting on your performance, it’s understandable that many people can feel great anxiety before and during their interview. Our consultants will work with you on your essential interview skills, but also how to communicate your strengths and best qualities in a short amount of time, and adapt to any curve-balls thrown your way.
Oxbridge is famous for its “tutorial” system of teaching, where students meet with academics one-on-one or in small groups to discuss their essays or assignments every week. Interviews are in many ways like trial supervisions, where tutors are looking at how you respond to questions and how you solve problems, as well as to see your expertise in their subject area.
The day itself is split up into three workshops taking up the majority of the day, which include: Interview Skills, “Talk & Tutorial”, and a Mock Interview.
In the Interview Skills session, you’ll work with our consultants (all Oxbridge or medical school graduates) to improve your interview skills in areas like fluent communication, body language, building confidence, and calming and grounding techniques to stay focused and avoid panic on the day.
In “Talk & Tutorial”, you’ll attend a presentation by a former Oxbridge admissions tutor to help you understand what’s expected from an Oxbridge student, and what exactly admissions tutors are looking for in the students they admit. You’ll then work in subject specific groups with other students, discussing past interview questions from your academic discipline with the aim of cultivating your critical thinking skills, and understanding how others might approach the question.
In the Mock Interview, you’ll end the day with an interview session with immediate feedback from an Oxbridge admissions expert. These are designed to mimic real Oxbridge or medical school interviews, and will help you figure out precisely where you need to improve.
