What does our Oxbridge Summer Course Involve?
1.) Private Consultation with Getting In
To begin your Summer Shcool experience, you will receive a Private Consultation where a Tutor will work with you to establish your course and university choices, and discuss any concerns regarding the application process. This consultation also allows us to get to know the applicant, so we can match them with the right mentor to guide them during the Oxbridge summer courses.
2.) Eight Weekly Tutoring Sessions
These sessions will be hourly and take place over the eight-week Oxbridge summer programme. Getting In will match applicants with a mentor in their chosen subject and these sessions will mirror Oxbridge tutorials. During these sessions, mentors will help prepare students with wider reading, introduce them to new topics, and ask probing questions designed to test knowledge and stimulate discussion. This will encourage applicants to go beyond the school syllabus and these sessions will be followed by a detailed report.
3.) Four Mock Interviews
Getting In will carry out a series of four mock-interviews during the programme over the last four weeks of Online Summer School. These will be led by different Oxbridge graduates in a formal manner, emulating the Oxbridge Admissions Tutors. Mock interviews will be followed by a written report detailing interview techniques and areas in need of development in order to help prepare applicants for their interview.
4.) Personal Statement Workshop
Personal statements submitted to Oxbridge must be of the highest possible standard. This succinct piece of written work must convey the applicants’ suitability for their course of choice and their wider interests and achievements. As part of the Oxbridge summer school, Getting In will review three drafts of the personal statement and will have two in-person meetings to discuss this vital component of the application process.
5.) One Interview with a ex-Oxbridge Admissions Tutor
At the end of the Online Summer School, students will spend one hour with a former Oxbridge Admissions tutor, who has previously been involved in admissions at either Oxford or Cambridge, and specialises in their subject area. This experience is invaluable, and will help prepare students for their interview. Students will receive both written and verbal feedback to help them prepare further, as the final part of our summer programme.
RESULTS
Following the completion of Getting In’s Oxbridge Online Summer School programme, students will have enhanced their knowledge of their chosen subject, developed the skills Oxbridge are looking for, and crafted an exceptional personal statement that is likely to lead to an interview, for which they are fully prepared. Overall, the experience of the Oxbridge Summer School will significantly boost the applicant’s confidence, and alleviate any fears of the admissions process.
